A Day In My Life
When you’re a busy, high achieving high schooler, each day is valuable time that can’t be wasted. The key to a productive day, at least one of the keys, is prioritizing.
This is A Day In My Life and the priorities that drive me:
6:30 am I wake up, brush my hair, get dressed, etc.
a trick to avoid grogginess in the mornings…
try to sit up or stand immediately after you wake up. I find that laying down when you first wake up, whether it is to check your phone or just because you’re tired, makes the whole morning process slower and more difficult.
7:15 am I leave my house and head to school. I usually eat breakfast while I’m driving to school because I prioritize sleeping a little longer over sitting down to eat breakfast, but if it is important to you to sit down for breakfast, you may need to sacrifice some sleep or another aspect of your morning.
7:45 am I arrive at school. My classes don’t start until 8:00, but it is a priority of mine to be punctual, so I like to have wiggle room in my schedule in the event that my sisters or I are running late in the morning.
another advantage to being early to school…
it gives me a chance to talk to teachers for a brief help session or catch up with friends.
8:00 am I start classes. My schedule is not always the same, but during school I go to meeting for various clubs or committees I am involved in, eat lunch, and spend break times with friends. I am also very lucky to be given an 85 minute study period that I use to complete as much homework as possible. I find that using my study period for school assignments is most productive because questions can be quickly answered by nearby teachers and my mind is in “school-mode” so I am able to work faster.
3:15 pm I get out of school and head to musical rehearsal or golf practice (depending on the time of year). One of my priorities is to spend time with friends and another is to have some stress relieving time in my day. My activities kill two birds with one stone in that respect because I really enjoy my time in the musical and on the golf team and some of my best friends do the activities with me.
5:30 pm I get out of practice/rehearsal and go to dance class. I usually eat a light dinner or snack while I drive there.
6:00 pm I start dance class. Each day varies, but I generally have two or three teachers a night. Through dance class, I get more time with friends, a priority of mine, and exercise, a sometimes reluctant priority.
8:30 pm I leave dance class and go home (finally! writing this down makes it seem like I’m never home)
8:45 pm I get home, see my family, and start with the rest of my schoolwork. Usually I have little to no homework left if I’ve used my study period, but I will complete that and study for any test or quiz that I have coming up.
between 10:00 and 10:30 pm I shower and get ready for bed. Sleep is one of my biggest priorities, so I sacrifice some TV watching or Instagram scrolling in order to get rest, but there is value to entertainment and, as long as it’s not excessive, it would be perfectly fine to sacrifice some sleep to enjoy a few episodes.
As always, leave a comment with questions, thoughts, and suggestions for the future
